The Author
Louis Javier Mason is a Trans author, essayist, and blogger. Most of Mason’s work focuses on Complex Childhood trauma, historical and intergenerational trauma, White Supremacy, Black Liberation, Black Queerness, and Trauma-Centered Inner Child healing. As a survivor of Complex Childhood Trauma, Mason candidly shares personal experiences as well as insights on the importance of reparenting oneself to better understand the needs of the Inner Child/Teen/Adult for adult survivors to heal.
Mason’s body of literary works include Rochester’s monthly LGBT+ publication The Empty Closet, The Harvester, The Mighty, and The Socialist Worker. In 2011, they created the blog The Possible World, a platform centered around living with mental illness and Black Girl with Glasses in 2016, which focused on Black politics, trauma, and Black queer womanhood. Mason’s literary works extend beyond Creative Non-Fiction. In 2016, they self-published the political science-fiction novel, The One Taken from the Sea of Stars under the pen name Octavia Davis. They are also a huge fan of Speculative Fiction and Horror centering Black LGBT+ folks and Ancestral Magick, Time Travel, intergenerational/historical trauma, Folklore, and healing. Mason plans to write Children’s Books and YA fiction within these categories.
Mason holds three college degrees: B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of Illinois at Springfield, B.S. in Social Work with a minor in Women and Gender Studies from the SUNY College at Brockport, and Master’s in Social Work from the University at Buffalo School of Social Work.
